PV Solar Panels

At R J W Electrical Services we strive to achieve a high level of service for all our Solar Panel services in Dumfries and the surrounding areas.

How it Works

When the panels are producing power the energy generated by your solar system will feed back into your home. The appliances that you are using will therefore automatically be fed by this free electricity.

If the panels are producing more electricity than you are using, the surplus is simply exported to the National Grid through your normal electricity supply for others to use.

If you need more electricity than the panels are producing, your home will take the extra that it needs from the National Grid as normal. You won't notice a change in the way that your house is supplied energy.

Bespoke Solutions

Whilst many houses can be identical, every home is different.

This is our philosophy when it comes to creating solar systems. A solar panel says a lot about the people who live or work in a building and that is something that we like to reflect in the choice of panels. We invest time talking with every customer to find exactly what they want, use this information to design every layout from scratch.

We can therefore guarantee that each solution we offer has been moulded to the exact requirements of the customer.

Qualified Engineers

As well as designing a system that looks good, fits into the environment and provides the amount of power you need it also needs to be safe and secure.

There are a number of variables that will be considered when determining which mounting system we will use. The majority of roofs pose no significant issues, allowing us to use 'off the shelf' brackets and mounting rails directly from the panel suppliers. There are instances however where the mounting system must be designed in house and custom manufactured.

When a system needs to be customised these are designed by our fully qualified and certified engineering team.

Highest Quality Suppliers

There are a lot of solar panel manufacturers out there. We only use the best. We don't scrimp on quality at any stage on any of the components. We're more than happy to discuss any specific suppliers or components, please just contact us for peace of mind.

Experienced Fitting Teams

Our teams are all lead by one of our experienced project managers, who knows the entire process from beginning to end. We feel it is important for you to have somebody you can talk to during the install to explain what our team is doing at any moment in time. Our fittings experts have all worked on roofs for many years, they know exactly how to install a system without damaging a roof. In fact, we can incorporate an install with a complete reroof if this is something you were already thinking about, such is our experience.

On a solar PV system there will be an accredited electrician to check all the connections and ensure your microgeneration is correctly and safely attached to the grid. In the case of solar thermal installs, there will always be an accredited plumber to ensure that the connection to your hot water supply is efficient and safe.

FITs

If you are eligible to receive FITs you will benefit in three ways:

Generation tariff - your energy supplier will pay you a set rate for each unit (or kWh) of electricity you generate. Once your system has been registered, the tariff levels are guaranteed for the period of the tariff (up to 25 years) and are index-linked. For a full list of generation tariffs, see FIT payment rates published by the Government
Export tariff - you will get a further 3.1p/kWh from your energy supplier for each unit you export back to the electricity grid, so you can sell any electricity you generate but don't use yourself. This rate is the same for all technologies. At some stage smart meters will be installed to measure what you export, but until then it is estimated as being 50% of the electricity you generate.
Energy bill savings - you will be making savings on your electricity bills , because generating electricity to power your appliances means you don't have to buy as much electricity from your energy supplier. The amount you save will vary depending how much of the electricity you use on site.
A typical domestic solar electricity system with an installation size of 2.9kWp could earn:

£1,060 a year from the Generation Tariff
£40 a year from the Export Tariff
£90 a year reduction of current electricity bills
to give a total saving of around £1,190 per year.
